African Butterfly Cichlid

Anomalochromis thomasi

The African Butterfly Cichlid is a river fish originating from streams in Western Africa. It is ideally suited for an African river biotype aquarium.

The African butterfly should be kept in a tank of at least 90 litres, heavily planted with rocks and other hiding places, and flat surfaces for resting and spawning. A peaceful fish it can go in community aquariums containing smaller fish with few problems. They are relatively easy to spawn in the home aquarium, laying their eggs on flat stone and plant leaves eggs take 3-5 days to hatch. The fish will become more territorial when spawning.

African Butterfly will accept most live foods such as brine shrimp, white worms, tubifex, and some dry flake food
