Zebra Obliquidens
Haplochromis latifasciatus
The Zebra Obliquidens Cichlid is native to the lakes of Uganda, and lake Nawampasa, near lake Victoria. It is a semi aggressive fish that should be kept with similar tank mates.
The Zebra Obliquidens Cichlid requires a tank of at least 200 litres or more with plenty of rocks for territories and a gravel substrate planted with hardy plants, as with most cichlids, they are prolific redecorators and will arrange plants how they see fit. The Zebra Obliquidens does best in a species tank and should be kept with similar-sized fish. It can be kept successfully with tilapia, mbuna, or haps of similar disposition
The Zebra Obliquidens Cichlid will accept a variety of meaty and vegetarian foods. Live foods like brine shrimp should be offered sporadically. A quality flake and tablet food containing vegetable matter should also be included in their diet.
The Zebra Obliquidens can be bred in the home aquarium. They are mouth brooders with the female carrying the fry, of which there may be 100, for around 3 - 4 weeks.
