Gold Severum

Severums originate from the Amazon basin in South America. Several colour variants of Severums have been bred over time, and fish are now available in Green, Gold, Brown and Turqoise. These fish tend to be rather shy, but can become aggressive during spawning.

They should be provided with ample places to hide or take shelter from other fish. They are reasonably easy going, but you must make sure that their tanks mates are not too aggressive, otherwise they will continually bully the fish. They do well on flake food, but as with all fish, it is important to offer them a range of food such as algae wafers or tubifex worms. They follow the normal method of Cichlid spawning, which is laying and fertilizing their eggs on a rock surface, after which both parents stand guard over the eggs.
