Colisa Lalia

The Dwarf Gourami, can also be known as the Red Dwarf Gourami and the Powder Blue Dwarf Gourami and the Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami. Males are slightly larger than the females and have a bright orange-red body with turquoise blue vertical stripes that extend into the fins. Females are pale, silvery blue-gray with very faint yellowish vertical stripes. The Gourami is a peaceful, shy fish and if in a pair the two fish will swim together. They breathe from the surface, known as Labyrinth Fish will there for need access to the surface of the tank.

They require a heavily planted tank that is of a least 50 litters with some of the surface covered with floating plants. Darker tanks will show off the Gourami colours more effectively. Tanks should be kept in a relatively quiet area with little noise, with regular water changes and good filtration. Gourami should not be kept with large, aggressive fish, but are compatible with other small peaceful fish as well as fellow Gourami.

Gourami build nests known as bubble nests that are bound together by plants. The pair will need to be separated for best results into a breeding tank with the water level set at approximately 20cm, with a temperature of 28C. After spawning the female should be moved to a different tank. The male will tend to the eggs and fry, and when the fry are 2-3 days old the male should also be removed. To start the fry off they should be fed on infusoria and moved onto brine shrimp and fine flake as they grow Gourami are omnivores and will eat both algae and meaty based foods. An algae-based flake food, along with freeze-dried bloodworms, tubifex, and brine shrimp will provide these fish with the proper nutrition.
