Werner's Killifish

Aplocheilus werneri

The Werner’s Killifish is a wild caught variety of Killifish is normally found in shallow streams where there is an abundance of vegetation. Although predatory in nature, this killifish can be kept in the community aquarium as long as there are no fish small enough to fit in its mouth

The Werner’s Killifish are not demanding and can adapt to a variety of water conditions. These fish prefer a heavily planted tank, preferably with floating plants and softer water on the acidic side.

This species of Killifish is not an annual species. Their eggs need to be removed from the water after spawning. They prefer to lay their eggs within a spawning mop or java moss. They are very easy to breed, and the eggs will hatch in about a month's time. Once hatched, place the fry in a small holding tank and feed the newborn fish live baby brine shrimp.

Werner’s Killifish will accept most live foods such as brine shrimp, white worms, tubifex, and some dry flake and frozen foods.
