Marble Sailfin Molly
Poecilia velifera
The Marble Sailfin Molly derives its name from the large sail-like dorsal fin they possess. The fish are a mixture of black and white in varying degrees. The fish have the ability to adapt to a variety of different water salinities. With time, the Molly can even be acclimatised to live in seawater.
The fish have big appetites and will eat plants, along with flaked food and will devour live brine shrimp with delight. These are some of the most popular fish in a community setup, as they are colourful, peaceful and are livebearers.
They reach sexual maturity early and will give birth to live young. Once they have given birth they will readily eat their young if given the chance.
Their hardiness makes them an excellent first fish. Livebearers, Gouramis, Danios, Rasboras, Barbs, Tetras, Rainbowfish, Loaches will all make good tank mates for thsi fish.
