Galaxy Rasbora
Microrasbora sp.Galaxy
The Galaxy Rasbora was discovered in 2006 and has yet to be formally described. The first examples were sent out by Kamphol of Aquari-Corp in Thailand. Its striking colours have made it a 'must have' species for many aquarists. It was first bred by Pete Liptrot & Paul Dixon of the Bolton Aquarium.
The Galaxy Rasbora requires a well-established planted aquarium with superior water quality and stable water conditions. They will prefer soft acid water although they can be slowly introduced to harder water. This species is compatible with other peaceful fish as well as others of its own species.
This Rasbora requires a warm, densely-planted breeding tank in order to spawn. After spawning, the water level should be reduced to around six inches. After the eggs hatch, usually in 36 hours, the fry will require live foods such as newly-hatched brine shrimp.
An omnivore, the Galaxy Rasbora do well on a diet of prepared flake food, as well as freeze-dried bloodworms and tubifex.
