Grass Carp
Ctenopharyngodon idella
The grass carp is originally from China and Russia but is now a recognized species in British waters. The Grass carp is a hardy fish, it is commonly used in large ponds and lakes to keep weeds away, it is good at clearing nuisance duck weed.
The ideal habitat for the grass carp is a pond of at least 500 gallons. Adequate filtration should be provided in order to maintain proper water conditions. Grass carp are naturally a river fish, so a well oxygenated pond is a must.
Grass carp will scavenge any plant life in the pond,. But diet can be supplemented with a quality pellet or flake food that when none is available.
Before adding your new fish to your pond, we highly recommend quarantining them for two weeks. This will allow you to observe and condition the new fish before introducing them into the display pond
