Sterlet

Acipenser ruthenus

Sturgeon are a truly prehistoric looking fish, The Sterlet or white tipped sturgeon is the most common popular for small ponds it is a slow grower and ‘only’ reaches 1.2 metres in the wild but typically 60-90 cm in the average pond.

The ideal habitat for Sturgeon is a pond of at least 500 gallons. Adequate filtration should be provided in order to maintain proper water conditions. Sturgeon feed mainly off of the bottom of ponds, so should be fed a sinking pellet to avoid Koi eating all of the food before its reached the bottom.

Before adding your new fish to your pond, we highly recommend quarantining them for two weeks. This will allow you to observe and condition the new fish before introducing them into the display pond
