Sailfin/Algae Blenny
Salarias fasciatus
The Lawnmower blenny is not traditionally attractive, but is used to control algae in the aquarium as it will eat its way through most types of algae, and is useful in aquaria where invertebrates would not work. Should be kept individually or in a mated pair only.
It requires a tank of 120 litres or more with plenty of rock work to perch on and hiding places. The lawnmower blenny is reef compatible and won't touch shrimps, sponges, corals or clams. Its feeding can turn the sand over, making it useful in removing detritus. This Blenny is a fussy eater, and should be fed vegetable matter like nori, and prepared foods containing algae
This fish is a jumper, so should only be kept in a covered aquarium.
