Dusky Jawfish
Opistognathus whitehurstii
The Dusky Jaw fish is an unusual, hardy and very entertaining fish making it popular to beginners and experienced aquarists. They can be housed in pairs and colonies, as long as they have enough space to establish their own territories.
It requires a tank of 90 litres or larger with plenty of substrate in varying grades from live rock rubble to sand in order for it to construct itself a burrow. The Dusky Jaw fish is a good reef dweller, but may go for small delicate shrimps They will eat most foods but should have their diet supplemented with meaty foods like clams and chopped fish. They usually adapt well to frozen and even dried foods. They are known for jumping out of aquariums so a tight fitting lit is a must.
They are possible to breed in the home aquarium
