Regal Angelfish
Pygoplites diacanthus
The Regal Angelfish is beautiful but also one of the harder to keep angel fish in captivity making it a popular addition for the experienced aquarist. Best kept individually, unless in a mated pair.
It requires a tank of 400 litres with plenty of rock work and hiding places. The adult regal angel starts to show a distinct yellow belly when it reaches a size of 10 cm. The regal is not truly reef compatible as it will sometimes eat lps, soft corals, and clams, it can be kept with sps corals however. The feeding of the regal angel can depend entirely on the individual, fresh and frozen marine shrimp fish and other flesh should be offered along with herbivores fish foods
