The Saddled Toby is one of the most hardy of the small puffers making it popular to both beginner and experienced aquarists alike. Best kept singularly as it may fight with other puffers, it can also sometimes nip at fins of other tank mates
It requires a tank of 90 litres or larger with plenty of hiding places to help it acclimatize. The saddled Toby isn't reef compatible as it will eat ornamental shrimps and crabs. They usually adapt to prepared foods, but benefit from being fed fresh fish meat. Being a puffer it can inflate itself when stressed or scared, be careful when transferring the fish and don't use a net where possible
