Orange shoulder tang
Acanthurus olivaceous
The Orange shoulder Tang starts out life as a rich yellow colour, similar to the yellow tang, when it matures into an adult it suffers a dramatic transformation into a truly unique fish. Best kept individually unless keeping an adult and a juvenile. This is one of the most peaceful of all surgeon fish and can be housed with most other tangs if introduced first.
It requires a tank of 500 litres or larger with plenty open water for it to swim in. Tangs will eat meaty foods, but should also be supplemented with vegetarian matter like broccoli, lettuce or Nori to keep them healthy. The orange shoulder tang will graze upon live rock and sand keeping it clean, an appealing trait for some aquarists. They usually adapt well to frozen and even dried foods, but benefit from the addition of some vegetable material like Nori.
