Niger Triggerfish

Odonus niger

The Niger Triggerfish is a beautiful fish, peaceful and shy; it will recognize its owner after a time and beg for food. The Niger trigger can be housed with other Niger's and other triggers if introduced simultaneously when juvenile/sub adult.

It requires a tank of 300 litres or larger with plenty open water for it to swim in and live rock to hide in, it may on occasion rearrange the rockwork in the tank. Trigger fish aren't reef compatible and will attack any invertebrates with the exception of stinging anemones, The Niger however wont touch corals, and can be housed with cleaner shrimp if the shrimp is already established. Triggers will eat meaty foods like clams, lancer fish, brine shrimp and hard shelled crustaceans to help wear down their teeth. They usually adapt well to frozen and even dried foods.
