Pink Tail Trigger
Melichthys vidua
The Pink tail Triggerfish is a beautiful fish appealing to all aquarists it will recognize its owner after a time and beg for food. Should only ever be housed singularly as it is aggressive towards other triggers. The Pink tail is the least aggressive trigger fish available in the hobby and can be kept with peaceful fish of a similar size or larger, or with more aggressive smaller fish.
It requires a tank of 300 litres or larger with plenty open water for it to swim in and live rock to hide in, the pink tail isn’t as likely to rearrange tank décor or dig holes. The Pink tail is one of the few triggers that can be kept in a reef aquarium, although large specimens may eat shrimps. Triggers will eat meaty foods like clams, lancer fish, brine shrimp and hard shelled crustaceans to help wear down their teeth. They usually adapt well to frozen and even dried foods.
