Green Wrasse
Halichoeres chloropterus
The Green Wrasse is a beautiful reef fish that shows no elaborate colour patterns. The green wrasse can be kept in groups if introduced simultaneously, larger specimens have been known to pick on smaller passive wrasse like flasher and fairy wrasse
A 200 litre or larger aquarium should be provided, with plenty of overhangs and caves to hide in as well as a minimum 5cm deep sand bed for it to sleep at night. The green wrasse will not bother most invertebrates, they will sometimes eat fan worms, small snails and ornamental shrimps. The green wrasse also eats parasitic snails that would normally eat tridacnid clams. These fish do like to jump, so a tight fitting canopy is required.
When first introduced into the aquarium, live saltwater feeder shrimp should be used to entice this fish to eat. The diet of this wrasse should include a variety of frozen offerings, flaked foods, and marine meats.
