Bird Wrasse

The Bird Wrasse is an unusual reef fish that has a unique long ‘beak’. The Bird wrasse can be kept in pairs if introduced simultaneously or if the female is introduced first, larger specimens have been known to pick on smaller passive fish.

A 400 litre or larger aquarium should be provided, with plenty of overhangs and caves to hide in as well as the bird wrasse doesn’t bury itself in the sand. The bird wrasse will not bother most invertebrates, but will eat worms, small clams and ornamental crustaceans. These fish do like to jump, so a tight fitting canopy is required.

When first introduced into the aquarium, live saltwater feeder shrimp should be used to entice this fish to eat. The diet of this wrasse should include a variety of frozen offerings, flaked foods, and marine meats.
