The Boxer or pompom crab is a fascinating crab with two small anemones on each claw which are used as a defense against predators or to scavenge food. Multiple specimens can be housed together in the aquarium if the tank is large enough for them to have their own territories.
It requires a tank of 30 litres or larger with plenty of rockwork and a sand bed to scavenge. The pompom crab is reef compatible, but it may sting corals with its claws, the sting would be tiny due to the size of the anemones it holds. The pompom is a scavenger but will benefit from being fed meaty preparations such as brine shrimp and finely chopped fish.
