Emerald Mithrax Crab
Mithrax sculptus
The Mithrax crab is the hardiest and perhaps the most useful crab to have in a home aquarium. Multiple specimens can be housed together in the aquarium if the tank is large enough for them to have their own territories.
It requires a tank of 30 litres or larger with plenty of rockwork and a sand bed to scavenge. The mithrax crab is reef compatible, and is the only crab that is herbivorous and will spend most of its time eating through hair algae, bubble algae and other pest algae's. The mithrax crab is a scavenger but will benefit from being fed herbivorous preparations.
