Aquarium Acclimatisation Guide.
PLEASE READ THROUGH CAREFULLY FIRST
It is very important to introduce your new fish with care and attention, please follow these directions carefully so as to gently overcome any difference in temperature, salinity or PH. Your new fish will be very sensitive to even minor changes, so please do not rush the following process and we recommend that you keep your aquarium lights off for at least four hours, this is particularly important when there is already established stock in residence.
Floating Method
1. Turn off aquarium lights
2. Dim light in room before opening the box as exposure to bright light can cause severe stress.
3. Float the still sealed bags in the aquarium for approx 15minutes to allow the water in the shipping bag to equalise with your aquarium water.
4. Now you cut across the top of the bag with scissors near the clip. Roll the top of the bag down about an inch, this will create a little air pocket and enable the bag to float on the surface.
5. Add half a cup of your aquarium water to the shipping bag.
6. Continue adding half a cup every five minutes until the bag is full.
7. Now carefully lift the bag from the water and gently tip half the water away into a bucket, replace the bag floating in the aquarium.
8. Continue again adding half a cup of your aquarium water every 5 minutes until the bag is again full.
9. Now gently net your new arrivals out of the bags and release them gently into their new tank.
10. Remove the shipping bags and water content from your tank and discard. Please do not be temped into tipping this water into your aquarium.
Do not be tempted either into rushing the above procedure, not even if a fish appears lifeless, hurrying will only do more damage. Calmly follow the above procedure and you are doing the best for your fish.
We recommend that all aquatic life be quarantined in a separate aquarium for a period of two weeks to reduce the possibility of introducing diseases and parasites into your aquarium and to ensure that they are eating properly and are in optimum health.
Never rush the acclimatisation procedure. Spending time on this can make all the difference to the health and well being of your new fish. The whole process should not take more than an hour.
Even if your new arrivals appear dead or sick please follow the procedure. Some fish can act dead to confuse the enemy and in those cases you will see a miraculous recovery. Do not be tempted to add an air line to the shipping bag as this will badly affect the PH and ammonia levels.
Should you new fish be unduly harassed by one off the occupants, then it is best to place the chaser in a floating hatching box or something similar for a couple of hours. We try very hard to get your fish to you in optimum condition. Our track record is good but in the rare instance when aquatic life does not survive transit or the 5 day guarantee period despite every effort to ensure its well-being, please refer to our RETURNING DECEASED SPECIMENS PAGE on our website.
